COUNCIL 29

Aim of the order.

The Catholic Order of the Knights of da Gama is a brotherhood whose aim is to train its members to be better Christians who, by their action and example, will contribute to the spread of the Kingdom of Christ on earth.

Our council serves Krugersdorp, Randfontein, Westonaria, Toekomsrus, Bekkersdal, Mohlakeng and Carletonville.

Headquarters are at St. Anthony’s church in Randfontein.

The General Assemblies take place in St. Anthony’s church hall at 20:00 on the THIRD Tuesday of every month.

The L.E. or Officers Meeting precedes the G.A. at 19:00 at the same venue.

The Rosary is prayed in the five main parishes at various homes on the LAST Tuesday of the month at 19:30.

House Masses are held on Friday evenings in different parishes whenever possible. A combined Rosary with a bring–and-share supper is being considered in place of the house mass.

Our council provides Knights to act as Guards of Honour at Confirmation ceremonies when possible.

Corporate Masses are held in the main parishes, at regular intervals, with a view to introducing the Knights to the parish and recruiting new brothers.

The members of our council who are resident in the townships we serve, are involved in facets of life very different from those encountered in the more affluent areas. Justice and Peace aspects of life, such as assisting illiterate persons to obtain I.D. documents, and guiding those who qualify for disability grants and foster parent grants are some of these more difficult areas of help offered.

Our members assist at the annual Festas held in Randfontein and Krugersdorp.

The Knights of our council assist with labour and give assistance at the various child care groups in Munsieville and have helped at The Love of Christ Ministry at Eikenhof with help in construction. We arrange Jumble sales to raise funds for places like Boy’s Town and other needy institutions which appeal to us for help.

Bingo evenings and sale of hamburgers keep the council socially sound and a group of skilled pancake makers look after the well being of other groups in the parishes in our area.
